Interactive play concerning acquaintance rape to be presented at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on November 4

Acquaintance rape will be the subject of an interactive play entitled PlayRights-One Night to be performed on Sunday, November 4 at 9 p.m. in the College of Visual and Performing Arts Recital Hall (room 153) at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Park in lots 8/9.

Developed by Equalogy, Inc., a non-profit organization with more than 60 years experience in the sexual assault field, One Night features four professional actors in a powerful story about rape among friends during what starts out as a celebratory evening. At critical points in the plot, the actors will stop the action to allow audience members to ask questions and uncover more details about each character’s motives, feelings and plans.

During the course of the play, audience members will have the opportunity to consider common misconceptions about rape. The program also covers legal, medical and community options available to rape victims; how drugs and alcohol are often used to increase vulnerability; risk reduction techniques; and ways for students of both genders to support victims and work to end rape.

The performance is sponsored by the UMass Dartmouth Women’s Resource Center and the Office of Housing and Residential Life. For more information, contact Juli Parker at (508) 910-4584.
