Nominations sought for The Jonathan Waxler Memorial Prize for Social Justice

Individuals who have exhibited a dedication to social activism are eligible to receive the Jonathan Waxler Memorial Prize for Social Justice. In 1995, friends and colleagues of Robert and Linda Waxler, in memory of their son, established the $500 annual award.

The award is presented to undergraduate students in recognition of their commitment to social activism both on-campus and off. Jonathan helped organize community groups, worked with labor unions, campaigned for educational and social issues, taught a course at UMass Amherst on labor history, and sought tirelessly to improve the lives of people less fortunate than himself.

Nominations of candidates who have demonstrated similar dedication should be submitted to Richard Larschan in the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth English Department by March 12. He can be contacted at (508) 999-8266 or Rlarschan@umassd.edu.
