UMass Dartmouth professor receives ASCAP award for musical compositions

Professor James M. Bohn, a visiting lecturer in the music department at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, is the ASCAPLU$ Standard Award recipient from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers in New York.

The cash awards reflect the organization’s commitment to encourage and assist writers of serious music and are granted by an independent panel made up of distinguished members of the music community.

Bohn has received the award annually since 1997. His major work last year was an oratorio performed by the Greater New Bedford Choral Society, although many of his other compositions involve the use of technology, he said.
