DARTMOUTH, MA.- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Library Associates elected officers for the upcoming academic year and donated $7,000 to the University Library. Dr. Mel Yoken, the Associates’ immediate past president, presented the check to Library Dean Ann Montgomery Smith at the organization’s annual meeting, which featured a talk by Robert Manning, lifelong journalist and former editor of The Atlantic Monthly.

The gift will be used to advance the relocation and renovation of the library’s Archives and Special Collections, which preserves documents relating to the history both of the university and of southeastern Massachusetts.

Newly elected officers for the 2004-2005 academic year are Nancy Kiernan; president, Dr. Richard Ward; vice president, Claudette Roy-Viall; recording secretary, Nancy Vital; corresponding secretary, Jeanne Corliss; treasurer, and Rita Raymond; assistant treasurer. In addition, Virginia Callas, Annette Dwyer, and Cordelia Dumas were elected members-at-large.

The Library Associates support the mission of the University Library—the largest library in southeastern Massachusetts—through fund raising events and cultural programming.
