John Magnan's exhibit, Body Image, Body Essence, is raising ovarian cancer awareness. The art symbolizes subtle and obvious changes women experience during ovarian cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Who: John Magnan, UMass Dartmouth alumnus and artist lives in New Bedford, Massachusetts with his wife. His exhibit is presented in partnership with the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. 

What: Body Image-Body Essence: An exhibit that views ovarian cancer through art and sculpture. 

Where: The exhibit is currently at the Las Olas Art Center, 600 Southeast 2nd Ct., Fort Lauderdale, Florida 

When: The opening reception for the public is November 20, 2004, 7-10 p.m. The exhibit will run from November 14, 2004 to February 6, 2004.

Why: John Magnan’s exhibit, Body Image, Body Essence, is raising ovarian cancer awareness. The art symbolizes subtle and obvious changes women experience during ovarian cancer diagnosis and treatment. Through art and sculpture he has addressed difficult issues like hair-loss, infertility, scarring, fatigue and intimate changes in self-image. This insightful response comes from the husband of an ovarian cancer survivor.
