The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth retained its top ranking among New England public universities and colleges in the 2005 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Colleges released today.

The University, which is ranked along with “master’s universities,’’ retained its top 20 ranking (13th out of 76) among northern public institutions and is once again the only public New England institution in the top 20.

“We are pleased that the University has retained its strong standing among its peers as it grows in both size and impact,’’ Chancellor Jean F. MacCormack said. “With its rapid expansion of its student body, graduate programs, research enterprise and community outreach activity, UMass Dartmouth continues to break new ground across the social and economic landscape of our Commonwealth.’’
