The Massachusetts Senate this week voted in favor of S1007,  the "Women on Boards" resolution to encourage corporations to appoint more women to board seats. Senator Karen Spilka and lead co-sponsor Representative Pat Haddad filed the resolution in recognition of consistent research showing positive business impacts of equitable and diverse gender representation on boards of companies. Below please find a statement from UMass Dartmouth Chancellor Divina Grossman on the passage of the resolution:

"The Massachusetts Senate's resolution encouraging businesses to recruit women to serve on their Boards is a powerful message of equity and opportunity, and I want to thank Senator Spilka for her leadership in this issue. We are fortunate to have our own strong leadership on the SouthCoast in Representative Pat Haddad, who is the lead co-sponsor of this initiative in the House, in addition to, Representatives Carole Fiola and Keiko Orrall. This is an important signal to our future female leaders who will be competing and leading in the global economy."
