The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth will hold its third Biennial African/African American Studies Conference on April 2-3, from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Campus Center's main auditorium. Parking is available in lots 4 and 5. The conference entitled, "Women of African Descent: At the Heart of the Struggle," will focus on the contributions of black women in the struggle for liberation, justice, equality, and human dignity. UMass Dartmouth alumna Edith DeMello 90 receives DEP Outstanding Performance Award
Edith DeMello, a 1990 social sciences and humanities graduate of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, received The Department of Environmental Protection's 2001 Commonwealth Citation for Outstanding Performance Award. DeMello is the recycling solid waste planner with the DEP Solid Waste Section in Lakeville.
