During this session, a few senior Student Affairs staff will share information and referral contacts pertaining to the services and supports that faculty are likely to utilize in their efforts to support students. Information will also be shared that supports faculty involvement with student life outside the classroom.

Discussion of assessment and strategies for improving student learning. An informal discussion of mid-semester teaching evaluations.
--College Now: Anne Boisvert, Asst Director of Alternative Admissions, will explain the College Now/START program and how faculty can assist students who are in the program.

NFI Meeting: Publishing in Journals
3:00-5:00 pm; Library 314

Dean James Fain, College of Nursing, will offer a workshop on publishing that draws on his many years of experience as the editor for The Diabetes Educator. Dean Fain will cover the basics of publishing in journals. He will also discuss the actual processes of developing an article for publication based on the mentoring program offered by his journal; for example, how we should deal with the dreaded “revise and resubmit.”

NFI Meeting: Grant Writing
3:00-4:00 pm; Library 314

Facilitator: Chris Eisenhart (ENL), Director, English GraduateProgram.
This is an introductory session on grant writing. It is, however, recommended for all faculty. More and more there is an emphasis on being able to write grants to support projects, even for faculty in disciplines not traditionally seen as self-funding. Experienced grant writers will benefit from the opportunity to practice as reviewers and also from Chris’s contacts in the Professional Writing Program.
