Assessing Learning: Grading Rubrics and "Backward Design"

Presenter: Cathy Smilan, Director, MAE Program

Curriculum design and course planning is often treated as a matter of administering tests, etc. on the material. Instead, learn how to first develop the criteria by which a student will be assessed and then design your curriculum. In this way, teachers can better ensure that the material they present and the activities they guide are most effectively tied to the learning of objectives that will eventually be assessed. This workshop will provide an overview of Backward Design and collaborative opportunity to construct grading rubrics
