All tenure-track and tenured faculty are reviewed annually in May. Tenure-track faculty are also reviewed for their 3rd/4th year and 5th/6th year contracts. Tenured faculty undergo periodic multiyear reviews. Tips for the Review Process
1. The review process is not meant to be a burden. Your annual reviews and contract renewal dossiers are where you make the argument for why you should be renewed—how your work contributes not just to your field, but also your department and the university.
2. Remember your audience. Your audience is your department, but it is also people outside of your discipline. You need to explain your research and teaching so that the outside audience can understand your work. Also, reviewers are busy people. Make sure your reports and files are well organized so that they are easily readable.
3. Create your annual review and contract renewal file as each academic year unfolds. Create three folders to hold your work with the following labels: Scholarship and Professional Activities, Teaching and Advising Effectiveness, University Service. Each time you do send out a work for review, include a copy in your Scholarship and Professional Activities folder. When you receive an acceptance for a publication or conference, place it in your folder and add the conference information to your annual review and CV. If you document your work as you go along, the process will be less time intensive as the due dates near. When you receive a peer-review evaluation, include the document in your Teaching and Advising Effectiveness folder, and so on.
