RN Refresher Course

Professor FisherThe RN Refresher Course is conducted under the direction
of Professor Lorraine Fisher. It was established to fulfill a
need which exists among nursing professionals.

The goal of this Course is to offer a quality program
that is taught by the best professionals and specialists
in the area. The Course offers a variety of topics,
based upon general themes which are reflective of the
latest trends in health care.

NOTE: Students are urged to register as early as possible because this course has limited enrollment. Courses are confirmed or cancelled one week prior to their start date. You will only be notified if your class has been cancelled. Please call the Outreach Office, at 508-678-3636, with any questions.

Spring, 2008 Schedule

8 CLASSES (at the UMass Fall River campus)

Dates (Tuesdays): April 8, 15, 22, 29; May 6, 13, 20, and 27
Time: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Enrollment: Limited Seating


3 SKILL LABS (at the UMass Dartmouth campus)
plus 2 Hospital Observations (at St. Luke's Hospital)
in Acute Care:

Dates (Saturdays): April 12, 19, and May 3
Time: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Hospital Observation Visits:

Thursdays, May 8 and May 15: 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM, at St. Luke's Hospital;
followed by a debriefing conference (proper nursing attire is required)

ourse Goals :

This 8 week refresher course is designed to provide nurses
with an update of both the theoretical content and clinical
practice, in acute care, needed to return to employment
in nursing.


Content Areas (in acute care):

                           


 
* Systems review & assessment
  * Pharmacology updates
  * Laboratory skills (chest tubes, IV therapy,
     parenteral injections, universal precautions
     & dressing changes)

Continuing Education Credits (CEU's):

CEU’s, as well as a Certificate of Completion,
