College of Nursing

RN-BS in Nursing Admission Requirements

The standard requirements for admission into the College of Nursing:

1. File application on line, in person at the Admissions office or mail an application to
    Admissions.  Click here for an application. Please attach the RN-BS Nursing
    Admission Guidelines Checklist
to your application and send a copy to:
    Barbara Santos, in the College of Nursing. 

2. You must include the non-refundable fee ($40 for Massachusetts residents, $60
    for non-Massachusetts residents) with your completed application; you may pay
    with a credit card online or with a check if you mail your application.

  • Have official transcripts of all previous colleges or universities sent to the Admissions office
  • Be sure to include transcripts from basic nursing program.

3. Include copy of your MA RN license with application.


You will be able to check your application status online using the (umassd.edu) COIN system.  Be sure to use your UMass Dartmouth ID#.  This number will be issued in the acknowledgement letter you receive from the Admissions office. When accepted into the College of Nursing, you will receive a welcome letter from the Dean.

NOTE: Prospective applicants must make an appointment with the RN-BS Program Director for transfer credit evaluation and to plan program progression prior to course enrollment. Please call Barbara, RN-BS Program Secretary, at 508-999-8591, to schedule an appointment.

Students will enroll in RN courses through the Division of Professional and Continuing Education (http://www.umassd.edu/pce). NOTE: Students must be matriculated (been accepted), in order to enroll in nursing courses after the 1st semester.

Prospective applicants may enroll in NUR nursing courses as a special student the semester they begin the RN Option.

Students are encouraged to remain continuously registered from the time of matriculation until the completion of the degree. This process cannot exceed 6 years, unless an exclusion to this policy is granted.  Continuous registration is in the form of:

  • Ongoing course registration at UMD
  • An approved Leave of Absence (LOA)

Important Reminder: Students who are not continuously registered from the time of matriculation until the completion of the degree will incur a readmission fee of $105.
