RN-BSN Program

new RN students only!)

Eligibility:   The options are offered to registered nurses who hold current RN licensure in Massachusetts and
meet admission requirements.  

Transfer of credits:

Non-nursing distribution credits: Credits may be transferred or challenged. Students may opt to take challenge
examinations through Excelsior College and the College Level Equivalency Program (CLEP).

Note: Students are encouraged to make an appointment with the RN Director for a preliminary review of previous
credits prior to admission to the College of Nursing and to plan program progression each semester.

Note: RN students must earn a minimum of 45 UMD credits to be eligible for graduation.   This represents 33 required nursing credits plus 12 additional credits taken at UMD.  

Nursing credits:
Transfer: 38 credits based on articulation agreements with specified community colleges or professional portfolio review.

Social Sciences: Must include 3 credits of psychology &
3 credits of sociology.
Humanities: Must include 3 credits of philosophy.
Mathematics: Recommend 3 credits of mathematics at a 101 level or higher. Students must have 3 credits of statistics to be eligible for the MS program.

Students who have completed 300 level nursing courses may take up to three graduate nursing courses as electives with permission of the Graduate Program Director.

Tuition and Fees:

Students will pay part-time tuition and fee rates as published by the University.   Rates for DCE courses differ slightly from regular University rates.   Students selecting the MS option will pay undergraduate rates until they are awarded the BSN.   Students will pay graduate tuition and fees in the MS program.
