Undergraduate Nursing Program

Introduction to the Undergraduate Curriculum of the College of Nursing
During
the last several years, the faculty in the College have revised the undergraduate
program of studies. The purpose of the revision is to provide students with
the most
current perspectives on the discipline of nursing based upon values, skills
and
competencies
essential for nursing practice in the 21st century.
The
revised undergraduate curriculum will be implemented over the course of four
years.
Beginnning in September of 2005, the freshman curriculum has been modified
consistent
with the revised plan for the Class of 2009. The documents that
pertain to this curriculum
are clearly labeled in the College of Nursing's Student Handbook.
Current juniors and seniors (Classes of 2007 & 2008)
will enroll in courses in the existing
curriculum, consistent with the program
to which they were admitted to the College. The
existing program represents
the University’s contract with the students.
Certainly, coursework
within courses has been updated on a regular basis
to reflect changing trends in nursing and health
care. Documents relating
to the existing program are identified in the Student Handbook.
These curriculum
modifications will surely enhance the outstanding quality of the undergraduate
nursing
program.
