The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment conducts surveys and analyses that support planning and assessment activities on campus.
National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)
NSSE has been administered to a sample of freshmen and seniors at UMass Dartmouth every three years since 2002. Hundreds of colleges and universities across the country and in Canada use the survey to learn more about their undergraduates' experiences. NSSE asks students about their experiences in five benchmark areas that have been shown to be associated with effective educational practice: Level of Academic Challenge, Active and Collaborative Learning, Student-Faculty Interaction, Supportive Campus Environment, and Enriching Educational Experiences. NSSE results help to indicate what aspects of the undergraduate experience at UMass Dartmouth are going well and what aspects of the undergraduate program may need improvement.

Future Plans of Undegraduate Degree Recipients ("The Cap and Gown Survey")
Students are asked to complete a brief survey when they line up at the Campus Bookstore in April to pick up their caps and gowns for the May/June graduation ceremony. This survey is known as the Cap and Gown Survey. A key question on the survey asks students about their likely plans following graduation. UMass Dartmouth asks this question of undergraduate degree recipients because the university is a participant in the Voluntary System of Accountability (VSA).
