Program Policies

Grade Requirements

  • The minimum passing grade for all nursing courses, along with the five (5) required science courses (eg. Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Chemistry I & II, and Medical Microbiology), is C (73 or better). This also applies to all courses for transfer into the major.
  • Courses with grades of C- may be applied to the elective or other distribution requirements in the humanities or social sciences. Grades of D+ or D will not be accepted in any category, including the elective.
  • At the end of each program year, the student must have an overall cumulative GPA of 2.0. Failure to meet these criteria will result in academic probation according to the university policy. See the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth General Catalogue.
  • A student has the right to appeal a final course grade. Refer to the grade appeal policy in the academic regulations section of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth General Catalogue.

Repeating Courses

  •  A student may repeat a course only once, only as space is available, and with consent of the department chairperson and the student’s academic advisor.

Note: When the repeated course has been retaken, the student will progress in the College of Nursing program only as space is available. Selection of students eligible for progression may be limited by the availability of faculty and/or clinical placements. In the event that the number of eligible students exceeds available resources, students will be selected on the basis of academic standing.
