The benefits of undergraduate research

Undergraduate research offers you an enriching opportunity for in-depth study in the area of your own interest. There is no better way to demonstrate your dedication and academic skills to future employers and graduate programs.

Passion: Your participation in research as an undergraduate springs from your passions. Right now, UMass Dartmouth undergrads are investigating new models for cancer treatment, how to eradicate sex trafficking of young women, fatal blood loss during childbirth, how to help people overcome grief, the immune systems of fish, how to disrupt terrorist networks, and stochastic models of the stock exchange. What do you most passionately want to research?

People: UMass Dartmouth’s research faculty will be your advisors and mentors: individuals who share your passion and your desire to make original discoveries. Working with them, you will learn how to refine, hone, and strengthen your ideas.

Power: Do you want your ideas to be noticed—to make a difference? Through undergraduate research, you will participate in local, national, and international conferences; present your discoveries in posters and talks; prepare your work for publication; and develop websites to broadcast your findings.
