LODGING, MEALS & FIELDTRIPS

The program begins on June 3, 2008. Please be sure to make your flight arrangement to arrive in Catania, Sicily on June 4th by 2:00 pm. This bus will leave the airport promptly at 2:00 pm. Transportation is provided for all program-related field trips and excursions.

The program ends June 28, 2008. Transportation will be provided from the University of Messina to Catania Airport. The bus will leave very early in the morning. All students must vacate the Sicily program housing accommodations at that time.

During those times, you will have the opportunity to explore the many cafes and restaurants of Sicily's diverse regions.

Fieldtrips

Visit the Calendar of Events page, to view photographs of fieldtrips. During our time in Sicily, we will visit various historical monuments such as Sicily's first Greek colony established at Giardini-Naxos; the Roman Villa del Casale at Piazza Armerina replete with late third-century mosaics; the Greek theatres at Taormina and Siracusa; the magnificent Greek ruins of Agrigento and Segesta; the Byzanto-Norman Cathedrals of Palermo, Monreale; and Cefalù; and Frederick II's imposing medieval fortress at Enna. We will also cross the Straits of Messina, gateway of the Mediterranean, to see the world famous Riace bronzes of Greek antiquity.
