Bela Feldman-Bianco is a noted Brazilian anthropologist from UNICAMP and is currently the Helio and Amelia Pedroso/Luso-American Foundation Endowed Chair of Portuguese Studies at UMass Dartmouth. She is the director of the critically acclaimed documentary "Saudade" (1991), documenting the experience of seven Portuguese-Americans in New Bedford and is the author and editor of several books on Brazil and Portugal. Presently, she is completing research for a book-length manuscript on the Portuguese in southeastern Massachusetts.

This book is part of the 2007-2008 "Futures of Luso-Afro-Brazilian Studies" lecture series organized by Prof. Victor K. Mendes, Department of Portuguese.
