EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

POLICE OFFICER EXAM-ACADEMY TRAINED OFFICERS

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Department of Public Safety is administering a police exam for the position of University Police Officer. The exam results will be used as the first step in establishing eligibility for a candidate list to fill future openings in the department.

Completion of multiple interviews, extensive background check, and further testing [medical, physical ability, psychological], will be required of selected candidates prior to a hiring recommendation for a posted police officer position.

Graduation from or certification by the Massachusetts Police Training Council Academy will be required prior to appointment as a University of Massachusetts Dartmouth police officer.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Must have completed a minimum of 60 credits or hold an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university, or must have completed 2 years of military experience and training related to this position. Official transcripts must be provided to the Office of Human Resources after payment has been made.

PRE-EXAM INSTRUCTIONS:

•Presentation of Photo I.D. and Bursar’s Receipt will be required for admission to the exam site on the day of the examination. No admission to exam without receipt.

•Applicants should plan to arrive at the exam site no later than 8:45 AM.

•No admittance to the exam site after 9:00 AM.

•No food or drink allowed in the exam room [EXCEPTION: Bottled Water only will be allowed].

•No make-up exam will be offered.

•Applicants who arrive at the exam site after 9:00 AM, or who fail to appear at the site, or who appear at the site without required credentials, will forfeit the exam fee and will not be given further consideration for a university police officer position   during the current search cycle.

•The examination is in four timed parts encompassing Math, Reading, Grammar and Writing. Overall exam score of 70 or higher will be required to advance to the next stage of the search process.

•Applicant scores will be available approximately two (2) weeks after the exam date. Contact UMD

Office of Human Resources IN-PERSON for scoring information. You must have picture ID in order to receive results.

INSTRUCTIONS PART 2

The Police Officer Selection Exam is a TIMED EXAM. Each section of the test will be timed.

ACCOMODATION EXAMINATION INSTRUCTIONS:

•  Applicants wishing to receive consideration for an accommodation must contact the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Foster Administration Building, Room 305, in person or by calling 508-910-6405.

•  Applicants seeking accommodations for the exam must provide a physician’s documentation IN ADVANCE of the test date using instructions and forms as provided by the University’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

•  All requests for test-taking accommodations and related documentation must be received in the University’s Office of Equal Opportunity, Diversity, and Outreach  NOT LATER THAN 5:00 PM November 28, 2014.

•  Accommodation’s will be made available on the test date only to those individuals who have been pre-approved by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
