Arson
Incident Number 11-476-OF
In accordance to the federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the community of an incident that occurred at about 4:45 pm on Sunday, May 1, 2011 in the third floor restroom of Roberts Hall.
The University Police Department responded to fire alarm for the Roberts Hall, third fl or restroom and found a plastic waste basket on fire producing a great deal of smoke. The fire was extinguished by responding DPS officers and Dartmouth Fire Department. One of the responding DPS officers was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for minor smoke inhalation and released. The entire building was evacuated until rendered safe for occupancy. Initial investigation revealed the fire was deliberate. It should be noted that this same location is nearby scene of two other smaller fires over the past few months nearby suite 307.
The Department of Public Safety, in conjunction with Dartmouth Fire Department and Mass. State Police/State Fire Marshal’s Office, is investigating these incidents and is asking for support from our community. The seriousness of arson, especially within a residence hall, cannot be understated and will not be tolerated. The Department of Public Safety is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of person(s) responsible.

Larceny of a Firearm-Handgun
Incident number: 11-438-OF
In accordance with the federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the community of an incident that occurred between 8 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday in parking Lot 7.
University Police were called to investigate a number of university vehicles that were vandalized. The damaged vehicles were struck with rocks that appear to ave been thrown at the windows. During the course of the investigation police also noted that a privately owned red 1999 Dodge pickup was damaged and appeared to have been entered. When contacted, the owner of this vehicle, a visitor to the campus, reported to police that a loaded Savage 32 caliber pistol was taken from the vehicle console.

Bulletin Board Fire - Pine Dale Hall
In accordance to the federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the community of two incidents that occured at Willow and Pine Dale residence halls over the weekend.
The latest of these incidents occurred before 10:45PM, February 28, 2011. Person(s) unknown set fire to a paper on a bulletin board, resulting in minor damage.
The Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident and is again asking for support from our community. Incident 11-138OF and 11-163OF
Nuisance Fires-Pine Dale Hall and Willow Hall
In accordance to the federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the community of two incidents that occured at Willow and Pine Dale residence halls over the weekend.
A paper door tag was reported burned on a fourth floor door in Pine Dale at about 10:45PM on Saturday, February 19, 2011. At about 2:30AM on February 21, 2011 some paper was discovered burned and scorched a rug on the 3rd floor of willow Hall. In both incidents, there was minimal damage to the structure, the fire alarms were not activated and no injuries reported.
The Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident and is again asking for support from our community. The seriousness of arson especially within a residence hall cannot be understated and will not be tolerated. The Department of Public Safety is offering a 5,000.00 reward for information leading to the arrest of person(s) responsible.

Burglaries: Second and Fourth Floors of Pine Dale
In accordance with the federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the community of two burglaries that occurred between 3:00 AM and noon, Saturday, February 12, 2011 on the second and fourth floors of Pine Dale Hall
A male student reports while sleeping his 4th floor room in Pine Dale, person(s) entered and took a MacBook laptop computer that was on the floor next to his bed. The student reports he last saw the computer at about 3:00 AM and noticed it missing upon waking at noon.
A second male student living on the second floor also reports his room was entered as he slept and his Toshiba laptop computer taken. He last saw the laptop at 1:30 AM and noticed the item missing at about 11:00 AM.
In both cases, doors were unlocked and no forced entry observed. No one was injured during these incidents.
DPS would like to remind students to always lock their doors even if they are nearby or leaving their room only for a brief moment. Do not leave and electrical devices or laptop computers unattended. DPS encourages the use of computer locating software available from many vendors.

Incident 11-126-OF
Burglary
In accordance with the feder l Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the community of an incident that occurred at about 4:30 a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2011 on the second floor of Oak Glen.
A male student reports his room was entered and articles taken this morning at about the 4:30 a.m. by two persons believed to be a man and woman. The student indicated that while he was using the restroom across the hall, he left his room unlocked and a burglary occurred. He states he heard man and a woman talking and then heard the door to his room close. He cannot identify the voices nor is a description available. Taken during the burglary was an X-Box, a Droi cellular phone and money. No one was injured during this incident.
DPS would like to remind students to always lock their doors even if they are nearby or leaving their room only for a brief moment.

Unarmed Robbery
In accordance to the federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the community of an incident that occurred on January 31, 2011 at about 11:50pm on the sidewalk in the area of the Dorm Court yard by Elmwood Hall
A male student walking on the on the sidewalk in the area of the Dorm Court yard by Elmwood Hall was approached from behind by 3 male assailants who forcibly removed from his person his back pack and personal items. Police responded immediately but were unable to locate any suspects. The victim was not injured during this incident and provided the following description of his assailants: Three (3) light skinned Hispanic or Cape Verdean Males, all three males were approximately 6 feet tall in height. One of the males was described by the victim to have had shoulder length braided hair and a unkempt beard. The three males ran to the vicinity of Ring Road they then entered a dark colored vehicle possibly a Toyota Camry with a Massachusetts License Plate.

Arson
In accordance to the federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the community of an incident that occurred at about 5:45 p.m., on Wednesday December 8, 2010 in the third floor hallway of Roberts Hall.
The University Police Department responded to Roberts Hall, third floor hallway adjacent to room 307. A paper figurine attached to the outside door to the suite had been burned. The fire had extinguished upon the arrival of the responding officers. Initial investigation revealed the fire was deliberate. A similar fire was discovered on the same door on November 29, 2010 at about 6 p.m..
The Department of Public Safety, in conjunction with Dartmouth Fire Department and Mass. State Police/State Fire Marshal’s Office, is investigating the incident and is asking for support from our community. Arson
In accordance to the federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and
Campus Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to
advise the community of an incident that occurred at about 12:30 a.m., on
Wednesday, December 1, 2010 in the second floor hallway of Hickory Hall.
A fire alarm activation occurred at Hickory Hall at 12:30 a.m. on December 1,
2010. The activation was the result of the burning of a bulletin board.
Initial investigation revealed the fire was deliberate. The building fire
alarm/sprinkler system was activated, extinguishing the fire and resulting in
water damage to the first and second floor areas. All the building residents
were evacuated safely, and after a safety inspection by the Dartmouth Fire
Department and the UMD Facilities Department residents were allowed back into
the building.
The Department of Public Safety, in conjunction with Dartmouth Fire Department
and Mass. State Police/State Fire Marshal’s Office, is investigating the
incident and is asking for support from our community. The seriousness of
arson, especially within a residence hall, cannot be understated and will not

Birch Residence Hall November 13, 2010
Between midnight and 7 a.m.
In accordance with federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics
Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the community of the following:
A burglar occurred between midnight and 7 a.m. on the fourth floor of Birch Hall on Saturday,
November 13, 2010. Four female students reported to police that while they were asleep unknown
person(s)removed a number of personal effects, electronic devices, a camera and a laptop. Entry
appears to have been gained through unsecured doors to the common area and a room.

Burglary- Oak Glen Residence Hall
November 11, 2010
In accordance to the federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus
Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the
community of an burglary that occurred between 3:00 am and 10:00 am on the
second floor of Oak Glen Hall on Thursday, November 11, 2010.
Two male students reported to police that while they were asleep person(s) unknown
their rooms and removed several cell phones and wallets containing bank cards, debit
cards and cash along with some small hand tools sometime between 3:00 am and
10:00 am. No forced entry was detected and both men reported they believed their
suite and room doors were locked before retiring for the evening. The wallet of one
resident was recovered early this morning on Cross Road near Old Westport Road off
campus and returned to one of the men reporting is missing. Unfortunately, the band
cards and cash were not recovered.
No susp cts are identified and no description is available at this juncture. Due to the
seriousness of the crime the Department of Safety is asking for any information in this

The Department of Public Safety would offer some tips that might help you avoid

the mos frequently taken items in crimes of this type are electronic devices, wallets,

are usually preventable as in most cases, items are left in unlocked rooms, vehicles or

Arson
In accordance to the federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus
Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the
community of two fires that were discovered today on the first and second floor men’s
restrooms of the LARTS/Group 1 academic building today. Both fires were in the same
portion of the building and separated by one floor.
Police were notified of the first fire by custodial services discovering a burned plastic
towel dispenser in the second floor men’s room. As they responded to investigate on
the second floor, a general building alarm was sounded in response to a fire in a
plastic trash receptacle in the men’s room on the first floor directly below.
These crimes occurred between 1:45 and 2:00 PM.
Fortunately, two male students attempting to use the first floor restroom discovered the
second fire, alerted students, and pulled the box alarm notifying DPS and Dartmouth
Fire an no one was injured. Responding police officers were able to extinguish the
active fire using a portable fire extinguisher. As might be suspected both fire have
been determined to be deliberate If not for the quick action of students and police
officers, a different outcome may have occurred compromising the lives and safety of
many students attending classes.
Due to the severity of these acts, the Department of Public Safety requested and
received assistance from the Massachusetts State Police-Office of the State Fire
Marshall. Several State Police detectives are working in concert with DPS and will
aggressively pursue the investigation.

understated and will not be tolerated.

In accordance to the federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus
Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the
community of an incident that occurred between 12:30 and 1:00 am on Saturday,
November 6, 2010.
A female student reported to police today that as she walked alone on a path from
Cedar Dell South to the Woodlands in the area of the outdoor hockey rink, she was
struck from behind by an unknown male assailant. The motive of the attacker is
unknown at the present time. The woman was struck once in the ribs and stumbled
but did not fall. The suspect tripped and fell to the ground and afforded the victim the
opportunity to gain the following description.
The suspect is described as a white male in his early 20’s, with dark brown hair
approximately 5’10” to 6’ feet tall, muscular build, weighing 165-185 pounds wearing
blue jeans, sneakers and a grey hoodie. The victim noted that he had a small amount
of facial hair on his chin in the form of what she described as a “soul patch that
permeated as a chin strap that was well kept with even edges.” The suspect was
reported to have a heavy smell of beer on his person and appeared very intoxicated.
The student then ran towards her apartment and told a friend about the incident, but
chose not to formally report this until this until today. Fortunately, the woman did not
report any injury during this incident.
Due to the seriousness of the incident, the Department of Public Safety is aggressively
investigating the incident and is asking for support from our community.

community of an incident that occurred at about 2:48 am, on Saturday, March 06, 2010
in the laundry room of Pine Dale Hall.
A fire alarm activation occurred at Maple Ridge Hall at 9:17AM on this date October 21,
2010. The activation was the result of the burning of a piece of paper that advised
residents to keep hallways clear of trash. This paper was posted on the second floor
wall of Maple Ridge Hall in close proximity to suite 220. Initial investigation reveals the
fire was deliberate. No one was observed leaving the area and no suspects are
currently identified.
The Department of Public Safety in conjunction with Dartmouth Fire Department is
investigating the incident and is asking for support from our community. The
seriousness of arson especially within a residence hall cannot be understated and
will not be tolerated. The Department of Public Safety is offering a 1,000 dollar
reward for information leading to the arrest of person(s) responsible.

In accordance to the federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus
Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the
community of a burglary that occurred at about 2:00 AM on Monday, October 11, 2010
on the third floor of Roberts Hall.
The male victim reported to DPS last evening that he was awakened early Monday
morning by at least one person who entered his room in Roberts Hall and left with a
set of headphones. The occupant gave chase in an effort to catch the intruder who
was able to make his escape somewhere in the residence hall. The victim was unable
to provide description of the suspect other than being male. The headphones taken in
the crime are described as “The Beats by Dre “ and were red and white in color and are
reported to be a limited collection.
The victim also reported that upon return to his room at about 8:00pm, last evening, he
observed the exterior door handle to his room had been removed by person(s)
unknown. It is unknown if this was related to the initial burglary.
Due to the seriousness of the incident, the Department of Public Safety is investigating
the incident and is asking for support from our community.

Crime Advisory-Timely Warning
September 28, 2010- Reference 10-918OF/10-922OF
In accordance to the federal Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus
Crime Statistics Act, the Department of Public Safety would like to advise the
community of three fire incidents discovered in residence halls. The first of these was
discovered at about 9.00 PM on September 26, 2010 in a Roberts Hall Stairwell. This
morning at about 4:00 AM, two additional incidents were reported to DPS. These acts
occurred in a Chestnut Hall stairwell and on the 3rd floor of the building. No one was
injured and the fires did not result in any significant damage to either structure. Due to
their serious nature, DPS would like the community to be made aware of the details in
an effort to identify the person(s) responsible. The details are listed below.
On Sunday of this week, person(s) unknown removed a door tag from a second floor
room in Roberts Hall and set fire to the item in a stairwell. The act was discovered by a
member of our community who immediately reported this to DPS. Remnants of the tag
from room 203 were identified.
This morning on the third floor of Chestnut Hall, intentional fire damage was inflicted
to a plastic light switch cover adjacent to a pull station; the cover was deliberately
scorched and melted. On the second floor stairwell, a bag attached to a sprinkler valve
cover was discovered burned. Burned remnants of the bag were later discovered
within Chestnut Hall.
While no significant building damage or an injury was sustained the seriousness of
these criminal acts cannot be understated. The Department of Public Safety is
aggressively investigating the incident and is asking for support from our community
by reporting any instance of fire damage immediately. DPS

The Department of Public Safety would also like to advise the community that
setting fires to any items in a residence hall, tampering with fire detectors or
sprinkler systems are very serious crime that will result in criminal prosecution.
