Residence Halls Congress

RHC Committees

Relations Committee:
The Public Relations Committee is chaired by the Corresponding Secretary. The committee is responsible for publicity relative to all events related to the Residence Halls Congress, the compilation of the Residence Halls Congress newsletter, and reporting to the University newspaper. Other responsibilities include maintaining the website, advertising marquee, and bulleting boards in every residence hall. The committee also keeps up public relations with other organizations, administrators, and the community to help keep the Residence Halls Congress an informed and educated resource for the university.

Public Health & Safety:
The chair of the Public Health & Safety Committee is appointed by the president. The committee is responsible for addressing health and safety issues concerning residents on campus. Such responsibilities include working with university police, facilities, housing, and administrators to make the university a safe environment for residents to life. Issues the committee has dealt with in the past include whether students should be allowed to smoke in the residence halls, walkway lighting, residential access to all halls/areas, and alcohol awareness issues.

Constitution Committee:
The Constitution Committee is chaired by the Recording Secretary. The Constitution Committee is responsible for reviewing the constitution and By-laws of the Residence Halls Congress. The Constitution Committee shall advise the Residence Halls Congress upon issues pertaining to the constitution and By-laws of the Residence Halls Congress as well as drafting amendments and proposals to the constitution.

Programming Committee:
The Programming Committee is chaired by the Vice President. The committee is responsible for the majority of all programming the Residence Halls Congress offers to the community. Such programming includes freshman move in day (R.O.C.), comedians, Scavenger Hunt, Date Auction, and SpringFest. The programs committee is always looking for new ideas and events to offer the residents.

Food Committee:
The Food Committee chairperson is appointed by the President of the Residence Halls Congress. The committee works with dining services and Sodexho Marriot to offer residents an energetic, satisfying place to dine. The focus of the committee ranges from problems and complaints about the food served, to discussing long term residential dining issues and progressive development of the facilities.


Quality Of Life Committee:
The Quality Of Life Committee chair is appointed by the president of the Residence Halls Congress. The Quality of Life Committee shall advise the Office of Housing and Residential Life on issues concerning the quality of residential living, and the living needs of resident students. Issues range from heating concerns, matrons, preventative maintenance, and renovation ideas.

Finance Committee:
The Finance Committee is chaired by the Treasurer. The committee is charged with working along side the Office of Housing and Residential Life on a yearly budget for the Residence Halls Congress allocating money to services and programs. The Finance Committee also advises RHC on financial allocations of money for cosponsoring events, charitable contributions, and other programs.

NEACURH Committee:
The NEACURH Committee is chaired by the N.C.C. All members of the NEACURH committee shall be responsible for assisting the N.C.C. to coordinate RHC's representation at regional and national conferences. A major role of the committee is to attend conferences to gather information about how other university's function as well as how their residence halls associations, congresses, and organizations work. These conferences are an amazing experience, as well as offer an educational base for our organization to develop and grow over the years.

Ad-Hoc Committees:
The President shall have the authority to form ad-hoc committees, which deal with recent issues affecting the residential life and the Residence Halls Congress. The President will appoint the members and chairperson of each committee.
