On Wednesday, October 26, the SouthCoast Regional Math Partnership (SCRMP) Annual Conference was held at The professional and Continuing Education Center - UMass Dartmouth, 139 S. Main St. Fall River, MA. Participants included math teachers and administrators from the SouthCoast region.
For the past two years, the SCRMP math conference has brought together teams of educators from SouthCoast school districts for the purpose of maintaining a regional network capable of supporting improvements, innovations and leadership in mathematics education. The content focus of this year's conference was “Geometry and Measurement Pre K - 12: the 3rd Piece of the Standards Puzzle.”
Participants:
* learned about current research on student learning in mathematics
* discussed the teaching and learning of specific problems with grade-level peers from other districts
* Met with members of their district team to discuss teaching and learning across grade levels
To benefit from the vertical discussion opportunities, districts included at least one representative from each of the following areas:
grade Pre K-2 math teachers; grade 3-5 math teachers; grade 6-8 math teachers;
grade 9-12 math teachers; curriculum coordinators; and school administrators
This year, 70 participants attended from Dartmouth, Dighton-Rehoboth, Fairhaven, Fall River, Freetown-Lakeville, New Bedford Voc. Tech. HS, Old Colony Reg. Voc. Tech HS, Somerset, Swansea, Wareham, and Westport school districts.
