SEMAP - Southeastern Massachusetts Agricultural Partnership

SEMAP Harvest Handbook

The Harvest Handbook is part of a larger Southeastern Massachusetts Agricultural Partnership (SEMAP) “Buy Local” campaign focused on raising consumer awareness about the benefits and importance of buying fresh, locally grown farm products, identifying where they can be purchased, and so helping to increase revenues for local farm businesses.

The SEMAP Harvest Handbook grew out of an enormously popular "Buy Local" handbook originally developed in the year 2000 for the Heritage Farm Coast Trust region of Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including the coastal towns along Buzzards Bay stretching from Tiverton and Little Compton in Rhode Island to the Massachusetts towns of Marion and Mattapoisett. The current edition reaches beyond the Heritage Farm Coast region to encompass all of Bristol and Plymouth Counties, Cape Cod, and the Islands. The wide range of listings in the Harvest Handbook includes farm stands and pick-your-own farms, wholesale and retail farm and aquaculture operations and some of our area restaurants and supermarkets that feature locally harvested bounty.

As consumers, you have the power and the opportunity to directly support our local farms and local economies. Use the SEMAP Harvest Handbook to find a farm, restaurant or supermarket near you. Visit these businesses regularly and experience the pleasure of eating and cooking with locally-grown and seasonally-harvested fruits and vegetables, meats, and value added products. If your local supermarket and restaurant does not already do so, ask them to carry local produce. These actions will help your local farms to stay in businesses.
