The UMass Extension Program in Southeastern Massachusetts has field professionals sited locally to connect the region to the Amherst-based UMass Agriculture and Landscape Program. Soil testing information is available at the field offices, with testing performed at the Amherst campus Soil Laboratory. There are twelve Agriculture and Landscape Program teams located statewide who can be accessed by their respective commodity groups via a statewide directory (see previous listing). A Floriculture Extension Educator is located at the UMass Cranberry Experiment Station, a Vegetable Specialist works out of Sterling, and two Nursery/Landscape Extension Educators are funded primarily by County Government: Plymouth County Cooperative Extension, Hanson, MA and Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, Barnstable MA. The Natural Resource Extension Program—largely grant-driven—is very active on Cape Cod with aquaculture programs. Currently in Plymouth County a part-time Natural Resource Educator is grant-funded for watershed education in Eastern Massachusetts. Pesticide education classes and exams are conducted routinely in Eastern Massachusetts at the UMass Cranberry Station and the Waltham Extension site. |
