Course Offerings Getting Through the Program Advisement Funding Applying for Graduation Employment Opportunities
Advisement
Advising for the MPP is a relatively simple process. The first step is for the student to become aware of the program requirements, including major requirements and course scheduling. The second step is for the student to make two choices: their concentration area (education, environment, public management) and their one elective course. The following sequence is provided to help students in the advising process:
- First, review the requirements for the MPP program.
- Second, review the MPP_Advising_Form.
- Third, review the recommended course schedule to determine when courses are offered.
- Fourth, review the schedule of course offerings to get a sense of when courses will be offered.
Once you have an idea of course sequencing and the schedule of courses required for the program, you can then make a determination of what concentration area you wish to pursue. If you need help in making this determination, please note the following Professors as contacts for specific concentration areas:
For general advisement, email mpp@umassd.edu.
For the concentration area Public Management, email mgoodman@umassd.edu.
For the concentration area Education Policy, email mgoodman@umassd.edu.
For the concentration area Environmental Policy, email cmcguire@umassd.edu.
Using the recommended course schedule, advising form, and schedule of courses offered, begin to complete your advising form. See where the opportunity exists to add your elective course (semester) and determine what courses are available to fill this requirement. Contact your adviser with a filled-out advising form to aid in any advising questions you might have.
Following this simplified process outlined above will provide you with a clear sense of the requirements for the program and allow you to maintain a good deal of control over your sequencing of courses and overall understanding of program requirements to ensure you move through the program with as much ease as possible.
