I spent my infancy in Cape Verde so I consider myself as
a capeverdian (if not in the passport, at least in the soul).
At present I'm studying at the University but I intend
to go and live there as soon as I can. The people, the land
and all that make Cape Verde such a wonderful place deserve
the best and I hope someday I'll contribute to the development
of the country in any way I can. Being nostalgic as all Portuguese
(and Capeverdian) are, I would like to get in touch with everything
concerning the country. So, if you're a Cape Verde lover,
give me a call!!

My father joseph a. tavares came over in the charles
w morgan whaling ship docked in mystic conn.  at the 
age 0f 16. this has been docomented.  he is still alive
and 94 years old.  so how can A. Lopes be listed as the 
only surviving whaling ship survivor?  I think the cape 
verdean home page need to do more research.  check 
with the providence journal, who did a article of my dad 
last year. also check with the Mystic seaport mueseum.

My grandfather was born in 1898 and came to the states
in his teens,I have know other info.He had one sister 
alive in the 70s and surely she had kids who should be
in their 50s like my aunts and uncles.I am racing agains't

I was born in Praia Santiago in 1978. My parents and two brothers
migrated to the States in 1984, when i was five years old.
I'v been living in Boston ever since. I have a huge family.
My grandparents on my mother's side had 13 kids, 12 of which
have at least on child or more.

I want to know other places where there are other Cape Verdeans
located. Boston, New Bedford, and other New England areas
are the only places where I've seen Cape Verdeans.

HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY TO TONY LOPES!!!

The sole surviving Cape Verdean-American whaling man.
Born in Junqualinho, Sao Nicolau on January 27, 1897.
Served on the "William Grabner" and "Claudia". Widower
of the late Maria Ambra Ramos Lopes and father of
Dorothy Lopes and Lydia Lopes Stevens in New Bedford.
He has one grandchild, Craig Stevens, the nightly
newsanchor of the FOX TV affiliate in Miami, Florida.
For most of the past 40 years Tony has lived at
564 Purchase St., just across from the CV Vets Hall
in New Bedford.

His family and friends at Our Lady of the Assumption
Church salute him.

Hi there to all those interested in Cape Verde!!!!
I travelled to the Island of Sao Vicente in November 1995
to build some factories just outside Mindelo. These factories
are for the making of clothes (Calvin Klein Jeans!!!).
So if anyone travels to Sao Vicente soon, when you see the
factories, think of Australia (down under).
I met some amazing people there, and maybe I will get a
chance to travel there again some day. I hope they are all
doing well.

Hi there!

Last summer we visited the islands and were surprised by
it's raw beauty and the nature of the people we met.
One of the first things you do when you're on the net is to
surch for exotic places and I was surprised by the fact that
there was a cape verdian homepage.

One of the few whites we met was a man who was working
for the Peace Corps and we spent some good times with
eachother. His name was Peter Ansel and he is supposed
to stay on the islands till summer 1997. We lost his adress
and maybe you there can help me to reastablish some sort
of connection. For instance, is there any e-mail adress in
Praia, the capital on Santiago island. From there on it must
be not that difficult to sent and recieve some e-mail. For
instance the US Ambassy in Praia.
I'm not that acquented with searching on the net to solve
this on my one.
If you have any solutions on this matter please mail.

orginally from Falmouth, MA but relocated to SC in 1989.  
No one here knows anything about Cape Verdean people, and I 
try all the the time to educate the people about my back-
ground.
I am in the Nuclear Enviroment and Waste Management Business,

I enjoy reading the Cabo Verde web site. I would like to see more Isle  of Brava pictures on this site. This history I read on here was interesting. My mother and grandmother were from brava. Grandfather (August Borges) was from Soa Antone. Mother was born on a 3 mast schooner packet coming to USA  in 1921. I don't know which one it was. Rosa Borges was grand mothers name.

How fascination to travel in a few minutes to the end of the world and discover Cap Verde. Very interesting. Je suis le président d'une association, l'association MORGANE,
et le cap vert est mon deuxičme pays.
Avec l'aide de PADRE CAMPUS, de Cidade Velha, nous construisons des stuctures d'accueil pour les
enfants de moins de 7 ans, et nous avons un grand projet avec la municipalité de
ponta do sol: construire une stucture d'accueil pour les femmes et les enfants en difficulté sur
l'ile de Santo Antao.

Great improvement.  I really appreciate the work you have 
done to this web page.  I usually check it every week to 
see if there is anything new.  I am planning to visit Cabo
Verde next month.  Does anybody knows when Carnival starts
in Sao Vicente.  I've called a couple of people in Rhode
Island, but nobody seems to know.  I'll be leaving to 
Sao Vicente on the 8th of February.  If anybody has any

My father is from Bravo and my mother from S. Miguel. I have
spoken to Ray Barrows on a number of occassions about your
home page. He has asked me to get in contact with you so that
I could help you. I am a Cultural Leader Supervisor at the
Unity House, I don't know if Ray may have told you about our
research team that is working on a trip to Cabo Verde for the
