Hello. I am searching for someone. I am trying to locate
Gilbert and Dawn DeBarros. They met at Indiana University in the United States, married, and have since returned to Cape Verde, where I am told that Dawn now teaches. I am sorry to say I do not know which island they reside, but have been trying to locate Dawn for sometime now. I lived in the Islands of Cape Verde from Nev., 1949 to 1960.  I have 
many friends there as well as in the U.S.A. and wonder who remembers me.  
I lived in Praia, St. Catarina and Fogo.  Although I am not a Cabo verdiana, 
I dearly live the people and would like to visit there.  However, I'm having 
my ninety-first birthday in a few days.  I returned for and visit in 1978, 
and again in 19981, after marrying the Reverend Everette Howard, who lived 
in Cabo Verde frp, 1036 to 1951.  I wonder where Sr. Luis Cabral now lives.  
He is the brother to Amilcar Cabral.  He was an outstanding teenager, who, 
after his brother's death was the President of Portuguese Guine', now 
called Bissau, Guine'.  Saudades to all my friends!

I was born in Buffalo, NY to a Cape Verdean woman from New Bedford, Mass.  
As a child I spent many summers in New Bedford with my grandmother, 
a full Cape Verdean woman born in East Freetown, Mass.  I enjoy 
studying the culture's of various peoples and places.  Particular 
those I have a connection with.  This website brings nothing but 
pride and honour to my heart.  To all who read this feel free to 
pass any info along to me, or send a message.  This is not just 
about Cape Verde, but all of Africa's Children, and remember it 
takes an entire village to raise a child, and we need to be raising them.

   I think what is being done with a Cape Verdean web page is a good thing. 
I hope that everyone realizes that this is the wave of the future.

Guinean parents, was the founder of the PAIGC,

My mother is Jeanne Antoinette Rose, and my father is Edward Ames... also known as Eddie Stack, musician. My grandmother is Josephine Lomba, and my grandfather is Jimmy Lomba, also a musician. I'm surprised to find all this informatin about Cape Verde!
I'm working here in a fish factory, and just entered your site 
looking for some info about the discovery dates of the different 
islands for my girlfriend. She's a high school teacher here in 
Mindelo, and I'm sure she'll be as surprised -and pleased- as myself 
when she comes back home tonight to find what I've got for her. I

I hope to get up-to-date information on Cape Verde (my maternal and paternal 
grandparents were born here: Cabral/Varela/Gomes). I was born and 
raised in Providence, Rhode Island--home of many Cape Verdeans. I 
especially miss Cape Verdean music and dance. I'm glad I know how 
to cook Cape Verdean food, especially cachupa (or, some people call 
it munchupa). I visited the Island of Praia, Cape Verde, and had a 
wonderful time with family members and touring this beautiful Island
--this is where my mother's parents are from. My fathers parents are 
from the Island of Brava and I hope to visit there soon. I send my 
best to my Cape Verdean family and friends in Rhode Island and

New Year. To the Graduating seniors, if you are looking for a place 
to go to Graduate School, do yourself a favor:  Consider a graduate 
school in Michigan.  There are GREAT schools here, and you need to

Yesterday I saw a program in TV about Cape Verde and it was very

Attn: Anyone out there interested in helping the Cape Verdean (CV) Community in New Bedford and the serounding areas. I am the president of the Mariadjom Cape Verdean Childrens Foundation, Inc. We are having a Cape Verdean Awareness Seminar on Saturday March 21, 1998 at 2:30 pm in New Bedford. Our major focous will be on Emagration /Deportation (how it is and how it will affect us in the U.S. and our people in Cape Verde and what we need to do). We will be having guest speakers to inform us on this topic as well as an open forum so the perticipants may ask questions. We are customizing this seminar specifically for Cape Verdeans, however all nationalies are invited to attend. We have chosen New Bedford as our starting point because we have been approached by many CV that are very much affraid of what will happen to them with the Law concerning this topic. And with the families that have been or are waiting to be deported. We are very much aware that this information has been covered by the media extensively, however most of the population we are trying to reach may not clearly understand the law or the process. We are still in the planning stage. We have confirmed a site and will be giving you an update on Sunday January 4th. This seminar is being supported by MCVCF and the Americas' Concerned Citizens: We know you are a Concerned Citizen, Please join us! We are looking for the following assistance: Volunteers to assist at the site, to distribute flyers, and to get out the messeage to the media. Also, translators, students to do some mentoring, tutoring etc., guest speakers, attorneys specializing in the Emigration /Deportation Laws in United States that speak Creole and Portuguese, or just Creole, but must also speak English. Attorneys specializing in the Emigration /Deportation Laws in Cape Verde that speak Creole and Portuguese, or just Creole, but must also speak English. Individuals from the Emigration office. Representatives from Cape Verde to the United States, Representatives from United States.
