sorry but I do not speak portuguese. I can speak catalan, spanish or english. I am really interested in visiting your fantastic island. I do not know very much about it, but everything I have read or heard sounds very, very good for me.
I know the Island is nowadays not very rich, but I feel that people in there must be happy and with a very good sense of live. I know "saudade" is also a thopyc, but it also sounds sweet for me.
One of my dreams would be to visit your Island and stay with you, for sure, kind people. Who knows...perhaps one day! I'll never give up about it.
Meanwhile I listen the CD's of your worldwild known singer Cesária Évora, and I expect for her to come to my birthplace, Barcelona, to sing within the nexts months. CongratulationsMy very best wishes to all of you.

Hello again, since my last visit The Cardiff Cape Verdean Society
held a Christmas party when we all got together. The sad part
was that I see our small band decreasing year by year. The Cape
Verdean population in the UK but be the smallest ethnic
minority ever. My request for information about my family
has not shaken any cages but I always live in hope that one day
I will hear from them. I know you are out there. You just need to
look back far enough. I know there are cousins possibly in

Boston College student who recently went to Cape Verde on a
Community Service Trip sponsored by the Cape Verdean Student
Association here at BC. This was our second annual trip and
my second time going. We do community service at the hospital
and orphanage. Cape Verdeans are truly the nicest and friendliest
people in the world. I miss it very much and can't wait til

A good friend recently lent me a compact disk containing
island music from various parts of the world. Two songs
from the Cape Verde islands were part of the compilation.
The artists were Tito Paris and Maria Alice. The

(dia 22) there will be an important citizenship drive in
Cambridge at COPA; we need volunteers to assist our
"patricios" with filling out their applications. It will
take place from 9:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the
afternoon. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Also, the
Karantonha Exhibit committee is sponoring a fund-raising
event this Saturday (no mesmo dia) at Estelle's in Roxbury.
Proceeds will go toward financing the exhibit featuring fine

I have just recently found out that I am of Cape Verdean
decent. My VaVa was born in 1901. Her name was
Georginna DeMello and married a fisherman in order to
come to the United States. Many years later she married
my VaVoo. His name was Joseph Frates Alves. I lived with

In just a matter of a few days of discovering this sight and
checking into it, I have heard from so many dear friends and
relatives.I am originally from New Bedford, but also lived for many years
in Falmouth on Cape Cod. I am a high school bilingual (Spanish) English teacher
in the small town of Avondale on the outskirts of Phoenix, Arizona.My mother is Evangeline (Fermino) Blake, whose parents,
Valentino and Dominga(Fortes) Fermino were from Sao Nicolau
and Brava respectively.My father, Joseph M. Blake, was African American and Wampanoag Indian, and

"TUD' COOL, TUD' NICE" CU' TITO PARIS NA NORUEGAYesterday was a great day for Cape Verdeans in Norway, with
the long awaited concert of Tito Paris. Unfortunately, Cape
Verdean musicians don't come here too often. About a hundred
Cape Verdeans and fifty (?) others, including some quasi-Cape
Verdeans like me, gathered to enjoy an evening of Cape Verdean
atmosphere. Maybe the musical performance didn't quite live
up to our expectations, but it was a great chance to meet
friends and not least to dance. The culminating point was
clearly his hit "Dana ma mi, crioula" where everybody joined

I'm originally from Cambridge Mass. My Father was from Wareham Mass. and my
Mother from New Bedford. My Father's family is from Fogo and my Mother's
family is from St. Vincent. I don't speak the language, but remember a
few phrases and words. I grew up hearing the creole a lot, Grandmother, Aunts,
Uncles, Godfather etc. Would love to learn agaian and have more dialog over the

Neat page. am new to the Internet, and am interested in learning about small countries. Am familar with Cape Verde as I grew up in Boston, and used to get Portugues breads on the way to Newport. In addition I love Cesareia Evora.
Live in Atlanta and am fascinated as well with the Jewish/Marrano heritage of Cape Verde. There is a website sponsored by a Judaic history group called Kulanu that has 2 articles on Cape Verde. Keep up the good work.

I am seriously concerned for the young Cape Verdeans living in New Bedford. The scorge of drugs and the lack of self-esteem concerns me a great deal.
I grew up there and it was a wonderful place to grow up...(believe it or not), at one time. No longer do you see Cape Verdeans celebrating their heritage and culture.
