As much as we would like to support Cape Verdean business owners and entrepreneurs, the fact that the CV Home Page and the visitors log are hosted on a state university computer system prevents us from allowing advertisments on the visitors log.

I am not that familiar with the policies and guidelines in this area, and I will investigate further. Rehosting the visitors log to a non-university, privately-controlled site may be a solution, and we shall investigate this. However, there are other issues and complications arising from the use of the Visitors Log for commercial purposes that must be studied. Therefore, until and unless we find we are allowed to do otherwise, and are able to satisfactorily resolve other related issues and concerns, we must regrettably follow a policy of no explicit advertising on this page.

We will continue to announce and list CV businesses which come online in the "CV's in Cyberspace" listing, assuming there is no policy violation here. We will also see what can be done in support of spreading the word about CV businesses and commercial ventures via the Internet/Web. Any and all suggestions would be most welcome, as we wish to give maximum support and visibility to Cape Verdean business people, artists, producers, etc.

Of course, as we have preached for so long, the power of CV Cyberspace will manifest itself as CV Cyberspace becomes increasingly decentralized. So such a restriction can be viewed as a positive develoment. The Internet thrives on open competition, collaboration, individual initiatives, distributed collaboration. Central servers and sites have, and will continue to have, their place. However, it is networking, openness, demystification of the web, and empowerment of the people that gives cyberspace its power, and its greatest potential and value. Those moving in opposite directions will find themselves entering into the cyberspatial dinosaur swamp.

This is my first visit to the Cape Verdean home page. I have been to Cape Verde Islands, Portugal, and Holland...I have seen all the beautiful Cape Verdeans in this world and marvel at the tight-knit
community that surrounds us. I am amazed though that we, as a people, have not had "our time"...mainstream America has shafted Cape Verdean people and our beautiful country, it is now up to us to take a stand in government, in entertainment, and in business and prove to the ignorant masses that the Cape Verdean Culture is a rich and powerful one. Web sites like these prove that the time has come, and ignorant Americans won't wonder what we are all about.

Desenvolver cabo verde não pode ser tarrefa exclusiva dos Governos.A nossa prestação será determinante para meter Cabo Verde no seculo xxl.
Os partidos da oposição,os sindicatos(não percebo porquê existência de duas centrais sindicais em Cabo Verde),as associaçoes profissionais,a sociedade civil,os apartidários todos devem ter voz no sentido positivo da oposição.Entendo que não pode ser apenas os partidos politicos responsabilizados pelos bons e maus resultados do País.
Quero aproveitar para chamar atenção aos Caboverdianos que ser apartidário é um direito que nos assiste,mas também não devemos assumir um papel de indeferença perante politicas que nos parecem ser demagógicas e oportunistas só pelo facto de termos um estatuto de apartidários(é mesmo um estatuto).
Quero terminar cumprimentando todos os Caboverdianos inclusivo os meus opositores politicos no passado.
Temos que dignificar a classe politica simultaneamente exigir que se faça politica e não politiquices.Fazer politica exige de cada protagonista um esforço acrescentado,visto que requer uma formação adequada.Hoje não se pode conotar pessoas de politicos só pelo facto de participarem nas actividades partidárias.Antes da indepêndencia e ainda antes da abertura politica entendia perfeitamente tal entendimento,mas hoje o contexto é outro e as exigências são outras.

I just want to thank everyone who came here to Boston College for the party
this past Friday night (the 20th)...I know many of you came from
far away, like New Bedford, Rhode Island, Scituate, Brockton, etc...It was a good
turnout and it was nice having you all here...The party got off to
a slow start, but it was pumping for the last hour and a half
when everyone got here and finally started dancing...Believe me, I tried
my best to extend the party for awhile longer, but there's always next

I am interested in finding out more about the Capeverdean
population in Hawaii. I was just informed by a former Tauntonian
that CV's were the first blacks in Hawaii. I'd love to locate supporting documentation for this and
include in the Lembranca, Cape Verdean Cultural Awareness Day in Taunton on
April 11th. Also, I'm presenting an educational packet to some of the classes
in Taunton's school system in early April and would be delighted if the

The first leader of the Cape Verde Islands, Pedro Pires, is my cousin. His father, Jaime, and my grandmother (Benvinda Pina da Silva) were brother and sister. I'm curious to know if he is on the web. I've never et him, but some of my family members have.

I am a scientist who will be travelling to CV next week to spend 3 weeks doing research.
My collaborators (3 others - all travelling from Panama - 1 is US, 1 is Australian, 1 is Panamanian)
and I are interested in small "snapping" shrimp that tend to live in the intertidal zone along rocky shores.

We will be travelling to multiple islands and looking for appropriate habitat and any logistical
help or advice we can get would be greatly appreciated.

Specifically, local fisherman or students who might know good areas and be willing to serve as guides or arrange for
boat rentals, good/cheap places to stay outside of the major cities on each island?

Thanks for any help, and I am REALLY looking forward to the visit (although I am in a panic - I am finding Portugese a little
difficult to pick up!)

To all Cape Verdeans all over the world, Peace.
First of all I would like to mention about this big event that is going to occur here in Rotterdam/Holland.
There is this big Soccer Tournament going to be held here at Easter. The national teams from Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, France,
Germany, Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Italy, USA and maybe a team from Cabo Verde. Last year, like all the years before, Holland won
the Tournament they won all their matches. USA came in second only loosing to Holland and drawing one game to Belgium.
The Tournament will be held over two days, after the tournament there will be a big party where the winner and awards will be awarded
to the best team, best player, keeper and referee.
So I am inviting all Cape Verdeans all over the world to come to Holland and enjoy the festivities, you'll be sorry if you don't come.

I discovered this web page when I was researching my family history. I'm a 2nd generation Cape Verdean and I was trying to look up information on my mother's family history. They are from Fogo and my great-great grandmother was a famous poetess (or so I am told) named Ana Procorpio (I am unsure of the spelling). If anyone has any information on or about her or her works I would appreciate an email. It's great to see a site dedicated to our culture and heritage. By the way, if anyone happens to be on the Cape this summer, I highly recomend the St. John the Baptist festival in North Carver. It draws a lot of older people who can give you a great verbal history of the islands and culture. It's also good because you can get a great bowl of cachupa....

I would like to thank everyone involved in the creation of this site.

We (my husband and I) are flying to Sal on 1 April 1998 and will be
staying there for about six months. He will be taking care of the
rehabilitation of the runway at the airport and I will be exploring.
I have looked for information on the islands everywhere and have been
unsuccessful until I found this site. I now know where I am going and I
have a better idea of what to expect.

When I read all the comments by the visitors to this site, Cape Verde sounds
like a wonderful place to be. I am very excited and I cannot wait to
experience the culture of this wonderful nation. I had no idea of what
the islands were about (history, culture, etc.) and when I return I hope I will
be another one of many happy island visitors.

MY mother is CApe Verdean , so I am half. People out here do not know what cape verde is or even where.
