It is great to see a Cape Verdean Home Page on the web!
And to see that there are many, many Lomba's, too.
My father was Manuel Lomba born in Onset, Mass., and
my mother, Irise, still lives in Sacramento. My
grandparents were from the Islands--Brava and Fogo.
I live on Miami Beach.
Keep up the good work.

The Capeverdean Home Page was the best and most exciting
thing that has happened to me since I left home (Cape Verde).
I appreciate very much the opportunity that this home page
gives me to interact with the Capeverdean community.
I want to congratulate the people that put it toghether.
By the way I am a Ray's fan since the days of
the "gafanhotos".
I am not sure how could I help, but I will for sure
be glad to.

Hello, my name is Katie Kane, and I'm in eighth grade. My class and
I are doing a research project on the Cape Verde Islands. One of my
assignments is to interview someone with knowledge, and ask a few
questions. I'd appreciate it if I could get it back by Tuesday, the
14,the latest.
1.) What is the music like on the Cape Verde Islands?
2.) How often are there festivals on the islands?
3.) Are there certain beliefs about animals?
4.) Is storytelling common at the festivals?
5.) How do the people of Cape Verde celebrate birthdays?
Thank you for your help,
Katie Kane

Hi all Cape Verdeans browsing the Net,
This is my second visit and I just love seeing all the old familiar and much loved family names. I visited homelands of my Great Grandfather and my Grandfather in late 1989 early 1990. Sitting in the square in Mindelo it felt very familiar and it is only a few months ago that I realised why, the square in which the Porto Grande hotel overlooks is almost identical to a square which was in Loudon Square, in Cardiff Docks, sadly the decay of the area took it toll and it has been demolished and has been replaced by 15 storey housing blocks (2).
My Great Grandfather Antonio Silva a farmer, Sao Vicente visited Cardiff during the opening of one of the docks in Cardiff, he wrote home about the fiesta when they sailed in.....I have since checked and one of the docks was being opened by the King (excuse me by my English history is long forgotten). However, I was browsing through some old micro fische and one of the first ships to enter the dock was an American timber vessel named Manolo or similar (the copies are somewhere in my loft). I couldn't get hold of the crew manifest as at that time the customs did not keep such records.
My Grandfather began his career at a very young age and finally settled in Cardiff marrying my grandmother. My Grandfather's name was Emanuel Benaventura Silva (Sao Vicente). Upon showing a picture of my grandfather to one of our country men, he assures me that my grandfather hailed from Sao Antao, but I think he is mixing him up with my Uncle Paulino Flo (Sao Antao). My grandfather had two sisters one was a concert pianist, and later had a business in Sao Vicente making and supplying ships uniforms to the various navies (whites - uniforms), her partner was French. Sadly I haven't much to remember about his other sister except she used to send a lot of dried fruit, sweet and cakes to my mum. We would dearly love to find some of our relatives and we have been given to believe that some cousins are living in Lisboa. I was also given to believe that an elderly cousin of my grandfather worked as a meteorologist in Sal airport, the immigration promised to look into it and took the only lead I had and I have not been able to get any response from them. Never mind, now there are Cape Verdeans on the Net my family looks even bigger.
Long may it live.
Best regards and my sincere best wishes to you all

their history. Keep up the good work and the support

Nice home page with valuable info on Cape Verde.
NEWS:
Three wind farms with a total capacity of 2400 kW has
been in operation since 1994 supplying approx. 15 % of
the electricity consumption in Praia, Mindelo and Sal, and
saving about the same percentage amount of imported fuel for
power generation from diesel power plants. This is a
benefit for Cape Verde as saving imported fuel means
improving the trade balance, and this is a benefit for
the global community as saving fuel means reducing the
emission of greenhouse gasses. If you want more info on the wind farms and wind resources of
Cape Verde, please e-mail me.regards
