I'm truely excited to finally find to a place to learn more about my heritage.
My grandfather moved to Connecticut from Sao Tiago in the early 1900's.
In his short lifetime, he made sure that his children were strong and
proud of there heritage as Cape Verdeans, even though they had no contact
with other Cape Verdeans. When my grandmother died in the early 90's,
it wa at that time that I was given my grandfather's immigration papers.
This being the only documentation left of his existance )everything else
was lost in a fire) This this is also the only picture in existance of him.
We are a very proud family of Cape Verdeans, and I would like to gather more
knowledge of our heritage to pass on to the generations that follow me. I'm
also a loner in South Florida, (hello!! Sandy Lobo, in Miami )originally
from N.J.. Would like to learn more, find family, and meet good people
who are as proud to Cape Verdean as I am!!!

If you haven't already begun learning Portuguese, start right now. It will be a great help in learning Crioulo! Try to visit the Cape Verdean communities in Providence and Pawtucket, RI or Boston and Brockton, MA. It will be a great introduction to Cape Verde while still in the US.

We are saddened by the passing of a friend and a well-known member
of the Capeverdean American community, Stanley Sylvia. Stan died
unexpectedly Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at Tobey Hospital.

His funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the
Assumption Church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, New Bedford.
Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.

I'm very happy that this site has been established. As an American born Cape Verdean there is alot of things I don't know about my heritage. Though I was raised with some of the traditions, supersitions and beliefs, I never fully understood the meaning behind all that. My children will also benefit from this.

I want to applaud the Cape Verdean Vets in the Wareham, MA area for
giving Manny Babbitt his rightful due as a combat veteran burial with
honors. Unfortunately Manny came to the end of his life at the hands
of the State of California. We could probably debate until the end of time whether capital punishment is morally correct but the taking of ANY human life either by the State or by any indivdual cannot be condonned. Thus ends the life of a man who fought and survived that needless Viet Nam war only to be saddled with drug and mental health problems which caused him to take the life of another human being.

MAY HE NOW REST IN PEACE !!

My father came to the U.S when he was seven years old with his brothers. They came to the U.S to
join there mother in Fall River. He sailed on the Ernastina.
Your web site was very helpful to me I had no idea what the islands where like.

At the United House Of Prayer for All People that was founded by a Caboverdean. Bishop Charles Emanuel Grace Better know as
SWEET DADDY GRACE. A big festival and a memorial will be held the latter part of May. Many Caboverdeans; African American will travel from New Bedford and from the Boston area. Members of Daddy Grace family will attend. The Church is located on M St in DC.
Check it out it will be one mighty extravaganza.
The Mc Collough Sons of Thunder a unique brass band and many other great singers and muscians will participate.
Don't miss it if you are in that area, pass the word. You wiil not see any thing like it. You all are in for a treat.

Dear World Family,

I am the granddaughter of Jose Lima from St. Vincent Cabo Verde. He was born in l891, joined the Maritime Marines, out of London and arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana in l917. He died approximately in the l930's, which is an estimate from family interview discussions.

He had a sister, named Maria, who I have been led to believe is still alive. A sister Geraldina,and Leopoldina.

Last know address in 1920's or 1930's:
His mother was Rosa Ana dos Santos
San Vincent, Cabo Verde

Hello, My name is Sandy. I think I'm the only Cape Verdian living in Miami. I've been here for five years and I havent meet a Cape verdiean yet. I just wanted to let you know how happy I am to see us people on the net. I just wish that they were more Cape Verdians that I can relate to here in Miami.
I'm currently in Graduate school for elemantary education, I really want to work with Cape verdian children. I guess I would need to move back to my home town in Ma to be able to do that.
