I am a 50 year old cape verdean who lives in columbus ohio and i just
wanted to look at some information on the islands. My father came from the
islands in 1920 and my mothers parents came over here in the early 1900s.
I never had the pleasure of visiting my parents relatives who remain in the islands
but i still like to read all i can about the islands.Maybe someday i'll be able to
visit.

We are extremely sorry that this magnificent and expeditious method of communication
has not been utilized in establishing very badly needed contacts between the old
Cape Verdean World and the new Cape Verdean World and its unlimited potential.

Sorry, I didn't introduce myself. I am a Cape Verdean born in Dakar, Senegal. I recently relocated to Maryland after living in New Bedford for a number of years.
I've been researching economic growth on the islands for about one year now. I am interested in export and import, in addition to marketing Cape Verdean music. My
concern with foriegn investments is that I don't want to see the islands being exploited. This economic growth should benefit the people while creating jobs for
them and lowering the prices of essential commodities. If you are interested in establishing a corporation, please contact me at (301) 417-6526, home address is 183 Gold Kettle Drive, Gaithersburg, Maryland 20877. A
percentage of the earnings will be donated to the islands.

I can't even begin to express my feelings!! Finally, a place where we can come together and discuss our interests in Cape Verde Islands.
I'm interested in exporting and importing from Cape Verde Islands. My concern is that the islands will eventually become exploited by other countries due to
foriegn investments.

I'd be very interested in getting feedback from visitors
to the CV pages who may be having difficulty in accessing
some of the information because of limitations of their
browsers. In particular, what specifically they are having
problems with or are limited by. Everyone should be using a
current copy of Netscape or Internet Explorer. Mosaic users,
e.g., may not be able to see tables and frames.
We'd like to strike a good balance between serving the widest
possible audience and incorporating the more advanced
page design mechanisms.

** HOMENAGEM FROM A GRATEFUL CAPE VERDEAN NATION **
With Amilcar Cabral, Abilio Duarte was a founding member of the
P.A.I.G.C. and a major player in the armed struggle to secure the
independence of Cape Verde. He served the Republic of Cape Verde as its
first Foreign Minister and later as President of the National Assembly. He
was a poet and a composer and will live long in the cultural memory of our
people.
In the 1960s and early 1970's Abilio made himself accessable to Cape
Verdean immigrants around the world and brought expression to his
fundamental conviction that Cape Verdeans in the Islands joining hands with
thier brothers and sisters in the international diaspora have the capacity
and the responsibility to build and sustain an independent country. Abilio
was one of the first Cape Verdean leaders to reach out to American-born Cape
Verdeans to engage us in the struggle to change hearts and minds about where
we were going AS A PEOPLE. Cape Verdeans in America responded by joing hands
with Cape Verdean immigrants and building the PAIGC-USA Support Committee
and later TCHUBA-The American Committee for Cape Verde, Inc. and other
grassroots initiatives in the Cape Verdean American community.
He believed in us and the critical role of solidarity in defending
the permanent interests of the Cape Verdean Nation. May our willingness to
continue to struggle for justice and sustainable development in Cape Verde
and for solidarity within the international Cape Verdean Nation be the
living tribute to the life of this Cape Verdean patriot.
Tell no lies. Claim no easy victories!

Hello! I did music research in Praia in 1992-93 and am hoping that I may be
able to get some information about some of the people I knew there via the
Web.
Does anyone in Praia know how the batukadera Balila from Tira Chapeu is
doing? And how about Kodi di Dona? I am also looking for an address for
Nesi, one of the teachers at the teacher training college in Praia.
Lastly, I am trying to locate some European friends I had there. Does
anyone know the whereabouts of Nick P., a British Biologist who worked for
INIA or Jelle, a Dutch water engineer. I'd love to hear from anyone who can
help.

both my grandparents are from Cape Verde and I didn't know much about

I still wonder if I have any relatives on the the islands and also
if the last name Neves is popular. My grandfathers name was Joau Neves.
If you could, please send back a general reply I would very much appreciate

My name is Per Lapins and I'm a Swedish documentary film
maker.A while ago I heard a story some people in Cape Verde living
in a vulcano crater. They were descendants from slaves who
made an uprising on Cape Verde some centuries ago.
After the rebellion a group of slaves fled up in the
mountains and found a shelter in a vulcan crater. Then they
lived free in the crater, in over a hundred years unto
our century.Have anybode ever heard about something like that?
Is it history, or just a good story?Sincerely
Per Lapins, Stockholm, Sweden.
