Massachusetts Statewide Undergraduate Honors Conference (link) Friday May 1, 2009 , 8:00 am-5:00 pm at the Lincoln Campus Center, University of Massachusetts Amherst Application and Abstract Deadline: Monday, March 2, 2009 I would like to invite you to present your work at the 15th Annual Undergraduate Research Conference at UMass Amherst on Friday, May 1st from 8am to 5pm. Every year from all around the state, students present work (either individually or in groups) on Thesis Research, Community Service, Creative work in the visual and performing arts, Independent Study, and Study Abroad. Last year's conference involved 400 students from all 28 Massachusetts higher education public institutions. Any undergraduate student is eligible to participate. This is a great opportunity for students to learn to present academic work or experiences in a formal setting, to receive feedback from scholars in their field, to enhance their resume, and to exchange ideas with other undergraduate scholars.
Twenty-Fourth Annual Honors Convocation Friday, May 8th 3:00-4:30pm Main Auditorium This year's Keynote Speaker is Professor Tim Nulty in the Philosophy Department at UMD. Prof. Tim Nulty graduated from Clark University with Highest Honors in Philosophy, where he was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. While working on his Ph.D. at the University of Connecticut, Prof. Nulty was the recipient of the Outstanding Scholar Award from 1999 - 2002. He was a University of Connecticut Humanities Institute Graduate Fellow from 2003-2004. He has published numerous articles on such topics as Asian philosophy, the philosophy of language, the philosophy of mind, and metaphysics. Prof. Nulty's areas of specialization primarily involve 20th century philosophy and the philosophy of language. He also published a book on the nature of truth, Primitive Disclosive Alethism: Davidson, Heidegger and the Nature of Truth, in 2006. Other News
(1) We will be taking some Honors Students to the Massachusetts Statewide Undergraduate Honors Conference in the spring. This conference is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students to showcase their work in a professional setting before their peers, faculty, and the public, and it looks very prestigious on a resume. Application and Abstract Deadline: Monday, March 2, 2009.

Fall 2008 Honors Night Movie Series! Thurs. Sept. 25: MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
National Collegiate Honors Council Conference October 22-26, 2008 Director Rob Darst and Associate Director Jennifer Mulnix went to the NCHC Conference in San Antonio this year. Are you interested in visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City? Join us on a day trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Sunday, November 9th! There are about 25 remaining seats on the bus. Bus transportation is $15. The admission to the museum is free, though you can give a donation. You can reserve your spot on the bus by paying your $15 fee to the Honors Secretary Cindy Pisapia in the Honors Center on the First Floor in Chestnut Hall. Seats can be reserved up until Nov. 7th, or when all the seats are filled. Seating is on a first come-first served basis. The bus will depart from UMD Lot 7 on Sunday morning at 6:00am. The bus will leave the Metropolitan Museum of Art at 4:00pm and head back to the UMD campus Lot 7. Please dress appropriately, and bring some money for lunch.
