BACKGROUND
Born in Jerusalem, Palestine. Lived in the U.S. since l954. Received a B.A. in History from American International College in Springfield, Mass. and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Has been on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth since 1965 where he chaired the Department of Political Science from 1969 to 1977. He was promoted to the newly created rank of Chancellor Professor in March, 1996.
He is the author of JORDAN; A STUDY OF POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT (The Hague: Nijhoff's 1972); ENEMY OF THE SUM: POEMS OF PALESTINIAN RESISTANCE (Washington: Drum and Spear Press, 1970); Editor of MIDDLE EAST CRUCIBLE: STUDIES ON THE ARAB-ISRAELI CONFRONTATION OF 1973 (Wilmette, Ill: Medina University Press International 1975 and has contributed many chapters to books on the Middle East, and translated other works in Arabic. His latest book is THE OBSTRUCTION OF PEACE; THE U.S. ISRAEL AND THE PALESTINIANS (Common Courage Press, 1995). His book, Occupation: Israel Over Palestine, is now in its second edition (1989). The book was selected by CHOICE Magazine as one of the "Outstanding Books for 1984/85". Authored numerous articles on human rights, the Palestine question, Lebanon, Islam, and U.S. policy in the Middle East in scholarly journals including the Middle East Journal, Journal of Palestine Studies, The Muslim World, New Political Science, Third World Quarterly, Al-Mustaqbal Al-Arabi (Beirut) and others. Frequent contributor to weekly magazines in Europe and dailies in the Arab World including Middle East International (London); Al-Yasar Al-Arabi (Paris); Al-Talia (Kuwait) Al-Raye Al-Aam (Kuwait) Al-Watan (Kuwait; Al-Safir (Beirut); Al-Qabas International; Al-Hayat
