UMass Dartmouth to host ECAC Div. III Soccer Tournament semi-final
on Nov. 14 vs. Johnson and Wales after RIC forfeits earlier victory
(Dartmouth, MA) – Seventh-seeded UMass Dartmouth will host an ECAC Division III Men’s Soccer Tournament semi-final game on Saturday, November 13 against #6 Johnson and Wales University. Game time at Cressy Field is set for 1 p.m.
The Corsairs, 1-0 winners over #3 Salve Regina University in a quarterfinal round game on Wednesday, were originally scheduled to travel to #2 Rhode Island College on Saturday for a semi-final game against the Anchormen. Late Friday afternoon, RIC officials reported that three ineligible players had played in RIC’s 1-0 victory over #6 Johnson and Wales earlier in the week. As a result of RIC’s self-reporting of the violation, the ECAC determined that the Corsairs would instead face Johnson and Wales in the semi-final round game on Saturday.. When Johnson and Wales indicated they could not host the game as the higher seed of the two teams, UMass Dartmouth’s Cressy Field was selected as site of the contest.
With the forfeit victory over Rhode Island College, Johnson and Wales enters the ECAC semi-final round game with a 12-8-1 overall record. Coach Ray Cabral’s Corsairs hold a 12-6-1 overall record.
The winner of Saturday’s semi-final round game between UMass Dartmouth and Johnson and Wales will face the winner of the #4 U. S. Coast Guard at #1 MIT also being played on Saturday afternoon.
The ECAC Division III Men’s Soccer Tournament championship game will be played on Sunday, November 14 at the campus of the highest remaining seed left in the tournament. Game time has yet to be determined.
