ORANGE, CA-Chapman scored 11 runs in their first four at-bats and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth baseball team, 11-0, in a game that ended late Tuesday evening at Hart Park.
John Alexander had two hits and three runs batted in for the Panthers, while Steve Fraser added two RBIs. Billy Sulentor pitched the first six innings to earn his third win of the season, allowing one hit and improving to 3-1.
Senior first baseman Dan Mancini (Marlboro, MA/Marlboro HS) got UMass Dartmouth’s first hit, a two-out single in the first inning, Junior catcher Mike Maclean (Spencer, MA/David Prouty HS) got the Corsairs’ other hit, a one-out double in the seventh.
Senior Jason Thompson (West Bridgewater, MA/Plymouth North HS) and freshman Stephen Watson (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill HS) combined to pitch 4 1/3 innings of two-hit, scoreless relief for the Corsairs. Starter Will Mahoney (Jr. Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) started for UMD and took the loss, falling to 0-1.
The Corsairs fell to 1-3 with the defeat, while CU improved to 15-6. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Whittier Wednesday.
