SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 26, 2006 – Springfield College senior pitcher Carl Longo (Manchester, N.H.) tossed five shutout-innings and struck out four to earn his first win of the season, as the Pride defeated UMass Dartmouth Sunday afternoon, 7-5 at Berry-Allen Field.

SC improved to 7-4 by winning its third game in a row, while the Corsairs fell to 2-6 on the season.

For the second day in a row, the Pride took advantage of first-inning errors.  Senior shortstop Chris McCarthy (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) scored his team-leading 11th run of the season off an infield error by UMass Dartmouth, to give the Pride an early 1-0 lead.  A RBI double by senior third basemen Derek Yvon (E. Longmeadow) sparked a two-run third inning, as SC increased their lead to 3-0.

The Corsairs used three-hits, including a RBI double by junior DH Rob Lomuscio to get back in the game, tying up the score 3-3, in the top of the six-inning.

A three-run seventh-inning by the Pride, sparked by a RBI double from sophomore Ryan Hingston (Windsor, Vt.), sealed the victory for the Pride as senior reliever Jon Davis (Ludlow, Mass.) came in, got the Pride out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth-inning and picked up his second save of the season.

The Pride will travel to Trinity this Tuesday (Mar. 28) and play at 3:00 pm. The Corsairs will open their home schedule when they host Becker Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
