UMASS DARTMOUTH BASEBALL TEAM RALLIES PAST WESLEYAN, 12-10

WHITTIER, CA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth baseball team rallied to score eight runs in the final three innings for a come-from behind, 12-10 win over Wesleyan at the Yard at the University of Redlands Thursday afternoon.

The Corsairs, who trailed, 8-2, after six innings, scored eight times in the top of the seventh after two men were out to take a 10-8 lead. The Cardinals tied the score in the bottom of the eighth with two unearned runs, but UMass Dartmouth scored two runs in the top of the ninth and held on.

Freshman shortstop Dave Ogorzalek’s (Rockfall, CT/Xavier HS) three-run, bases-loaded double in the top of the seventh cut Wesleyan’s lead to 8-5. Sophomore right fielder Dylan Zygmont (Swansea, MA/Case HS) doubled home two more runs, and catcher Mike Maclean’s RBI single tied the score. Maclean and junior left fielder Will Mahoney (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester HS) then advanced on a double steal and scored on errors by WC catcher Chris Graceffa and left fielder Rob Coughlin.

Maclean’s double in the top of the ninth drove in senior first baseman Dan Mancini (Marlboro, MA/Marlboro HS) with the winning run. Freshman second baseman Peter Gomez’ single drove in Maclean to make it 12-10.

Senior Eric Griswold (Taunton, MA/Taunton HS), the third UMD pitcher, earned the victory with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief and improved to 1-0. Reliever Kit Tholen took the loss for the Cards.
