In only two seasons as the head women's volleyball coach at UMass Dartmouth Rick Quintin has turned the program
around. From a winless season in 1996, Quintin came within one game of a .500 record in his first season and got
the Corsairs over .500 in his second season with a 16-15 record in 1998. His two-year record as head coach is
30-31.
In addition to a strong recruiting effort to attract local high school athletes, Quintin has brought a new energy
to UMass Dartmouth women's volleyball. Quintin has developed a strong network of parent and student support for
his women's volleyball team through a variety of activities and events at UMass Dartmouth home games.
During the 1998 season, Quintin's Corsairs had their first winning season since 1995. Quintin's second season
as head coach included a second-place finish at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational Tournament and a fifth-place overall
finish in the 1998 Little East Conference Championship Tournament.
Quintin came to UMass Dartmouth after three seasons as the head varsity volleyball coach at Apponequet Regional
High School in Lakeville. He established the volleyball program at Apponequet High in 1994, coached the varsity
team and established both the junior varsity and freshman programs as well.
A Computer/Internet instructor at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, Quintin is also
a head coach for the Coastal Junior Volleyball Program in New Bedford, where he has coached boys and girls in
the 16- and 18-and under age groups. He has served as a coach at the Whaler Volleyball Camp in New Bedford for
three years and as Co-Director of the Community Recreation Summer Volleyball League in Lakeville from 1993 through
1995.
