Joel Baptista was named head golf coach at UMass Dartmouth prior to the Spring 2006 season.  He took over the UMass Dartmouth men's golf program from long-time Corsair golf coach Paul Fistori, who retired from the post at the conclusion of the Fall 2005 season.           

“We are very happy to have Joel Baptista step in and take over our golf program,” said Associate Director of Athletics Louise Goodrum in making the announcement.  “We were sorry to see Coach Fistori leave after so many years.  But we are very pleased to have Joel in place for the Spring 2006 season in order to continue our tradition of success in college golf.”

Fistori left the Corsair program in solid condition after the Fall 2005 season.  The Corsairs concluded last season ranked 27^th by Golfstat which compiles rankings which are used by the NCAA golf committee for its national championship tournament this spring.  In last fall’s New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship, the Corsairs placed 18^th overall in a field of 45 of the best collegiate golf programs in the region.
