Mick Klitzner’s teams have been successful everywhere he has coached.

So it’s natural to expect the Corsairs to continue the improvement they began under Klitzner during his first three seasons at UMass Dartmouth.

The Corsairs finished 5-21 last year and advanced to the Little East Conference Tournament. They were in double digits in victories in each of Klitzner’s first three seasons, and there’s no reason that they shouldn’t continue to get better.

Klitzner’s best record at UMass Dartmouth’ was 13-13 two seasons ago.  It was the team’s highest number of wins and their best overall record since they went 13-12 a dozen years back.

In Klitzner’s first season, UMass Dartmouth finished 11-16 and hosted a LEC Playoff game. The game was the Corsairs’ first home tournament game in more than a decade, and it represented their highest win total since the 1992-93 campaign.

Klitzner joined UMD after a long and very successful career coaching basketball in Rhode Island. The head women’s basketball coach at Salve Regina University from the 1992-93 season through 1995-96 and again from 1997-98 through 1999-2000, Klitzner led his teams to a 111-66 record. He also served as an Assistant Athletic Director at SRU.

After retiring from Salve Regina, Klitzner took over as the head girls’ basketball coach at North Kingston High School in Kingston, RI. His first team, which had gone 4-20 the year before he took over, went 23-5. His next two teams went 23-5 and 23-3, respectively, giving him a three-year overall mark of 69-13. In his final season at North Kingston HS, his team lost to LaSalle Academy three times, with the last defeat coming in the state finals. He was twice named Southern Division Coach of the Year.
