BABSON PARK, Mass. -- The Babson College field hockey team tied a
program record with nine goals on Tuesday afternoon, as the Beavers
overpowered visiting UMass-Dartmouth, 9-0, in a non-conference contest.
Babson improved to 8-2 with the victory, while the Corsairs dropped to
3-4.

Babson took control of the contest with a dominating first half that saw
the Beavers score seven goals while outshooting their opponents, 28-0.
Senior tri-captain Elise Conley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) scored all of her
game-high three goals in the opening period, while junior Laura Ham
(Topsfield, Mass.), senior tri-captain Katie Janson (Easton, Pa.),
senior Gina Giardina (St. Louis, Mo.), and junior Andrea Tufts
(Wolfeboro, N.H.) also added first-half scores. Sophomore Brittany
Stevens (Dudley, Mass.) would begin the second half with a goal to make
it 8-0, and first-year Annie Pease (Waterville, Maine) added the first
goal of her collegiate career with 11:48 left to finish off the 9-0 win.

In addition to her second half goal, Stevens dished out two assists for
Babson. Giardina and Tufts each added one assist apiece, as did
first-years Karen Dietz (Troy, Mich.) and Megan Paglialunga (
New Canaan,
Conn.
). The nine goals matched the previous Babson record that was also
set against UMass-Dartmouth back on October 16, 2003.

UMD junior goalies Jessica Tavares (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Elizabeth
Fitzgerald (Danvers, Mass.) combined to make 24 saves in net for the
Corsairs, while Babson sophomore Soraya Gallegos (Houston, Texas)
stopped seven shots in relief of first-year starter Elissa Slovin
(Andover, Mass.).
