CORSAIR FIELD HOCKEY BLANKS CLARK

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-What a difference three days made for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team.

The Corsairs, who lost their home opener Saturday, scored twice and held on for a 2-0 non-conference victory against Clark at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Tuesday afternoon.

Senior midfielder Robin Dziedzic (Palmer, MA/Palmer HS) had a hand in both UMass Dartmouth goals. Her first goal, with 4:10 left in the first half, gave the Corsairs a 1-0 advantage. She assisted on a goal by sophomore forward Caitlin DiCecca (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) three and a half minutes into the second half, to give UMD a 2-0 advantage.

Junior Elizabeth Fitzgerald (Danvers, MA/Danvers HS) registered the shutout in goal for the Corsairs, her second victory and second shutout in three games. She made four saves. Cougar goalkeeper Kaitlin Kelley also had four saves.

“I was very pleased with our play,” said UMD Head Coach Jen Burrows. “Our communication is getting much better, and our skill level is improving. We played well, especially on defense.”

UMass Dartmouth improved to 2-1 with the victory, while Clark fell to 1-1. The Corsairs will host Wheaton in a non-conference match Thursday afternoon.
