                                                            CORSAIRS FALL AT ECSU, 2-1

WILLIMANTIC, CT – Eastern Connecticut State scored twice at the beginning of the second half and held on for a 2-1 Little East Conference field hockey victory against the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Wednesday afternoon.

Jaime Seligmann broke a scoreless tie less than a minute into the second half, converting a pass from Danielle Ulacco. Ulacco gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead less than nine minutes later. Erika Profenno assisted.

Senior midfielder Robin Dziedzic (Palmer, MA/Palmer HS) scored the Corsairs’ only goal on a penalty stroke with 7:51 remaining in the second half. It was the second penalty stroke UMD was awarded. Sophomore forward Caitlin DiCecca (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) took a penalty stroke with 13 minutes remaining, but ECSU goalkeeper Jessica Roberts stopped it.

“We played well, but we just shot wide, or we shot it right at the goalie,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jen Burrows. “We just weren’t able to put it into the back of the net. Their goalie made a very good save on the first penalty stroke.”

The Corsairs out shot Eastern Connecticut, 17-7. Roberts made six saves. Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Fitzgerald (Danvers, MA/Danvers HS) was in net for UMD.

UMass Dartmouth fell to 6-9, 3-5 in the Little East with the defeat, while ECSU improved to 4-10 and 3-5 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Southern Maine Saturday afternoon.
