                                                                               OVERTIME GOAL NIPS CORSAIRS, 1-0

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA – For two halves and an overtime period, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team engaged in a spirited battle with Little East Conference opponent Keene State at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Tuesday afternoon.

But Amanda Rosenbeck converted a pass from Nichole Garneau less than two minutes into the second overtime period, giving the Owls a 1-0 victory.

Garneau took a penalty corner for KSC, and Rosenbeck steered her shot past Corsair junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Fitzgerald (Danvers, MA/Danvers HS).

“We dominated the first half, and then our goalkeeper and defense kept us in it in the second half,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jen Burrows. “When we had the ball, we couldn’t get our shots off. Both teams played well, it was a hard-fought game, and they got a penalty corner in overtime and took advantage.”

KSC out shot the Corsairs, 34-16, with UMD holding an 8-6 advantage in shots in the first half. Fitzgerald made 20 saves, while the Owls’ goalkeeper, Sara Joyce, made 11 saves in recording the shutout.

UMass Dartmouth fell to 5-5 and 2-3 in LEC play with the defeat, while Keene State improved to 6-6 and 5-2 in conference play. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Becker Thursday.
