CORSAIR FIELD HOCKEY DOWNS REGIS

WESTON, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s field hockey team exploded for five goals in the second half and defeated Regis, 6-2, at Regis Tuesday afternoon.

Senior defender Caitlin Nottebart’s (Walpole, MA/Walpole HS) goal on a penalty stroke 1:12 into the second half ignited a five-goal explosion that decided the match. Nottebart put her shot high into the left side of the goal, beating Pride goalkeeper Aislynn Quinn. Freshman forward Rebecca Stephens (North Andover, MA/North Andover HS) scored unassisted seven and a half minutes later.

A goal by Regis’ Alex Kluchnick made it 3-2, but sophomore forward Caitlin DiCecca (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS), senior midfielder Robin Dziedzic (Palmer, MA/Palmer HS) and sophomore midfielder Erin Langan (Townsend, MA/North Middlesex HS) followed with goals to account for the final margin.

The goal was Langan’s second of the game. She tied the game in the first half, after Erin Campbell opened the scoring for Regis three minutes into the game. DiCecca assisted on both of Langan’s goals, and Stephens assisted on DiCecca’s tally.

UMass Dartmouth out shot Regis, 21-11. Junior goalkeeper Jessica Tavares (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS) made three saves for UMD, while Quinn and Kristen Tavares, who played at New Bedford HS, combined to make eight saves for the Pride.

“We picked it up in the second half,” said UMass Dartmouth Assistant Coach Leigh-Ann Wiseman. “In the first half, they were beating us to loose balls, but we came back and played much better in the second half.”

The Corsairs improved to 3-1 with the victory. They will return to action when they visit MIT Thursday evening.
