UMass Dartmouth picks up fourth straight win, 31-0 vs. Salve Regina
UMass Dartmouth wrapped up the 2003 season schedule with a 31-0 New England Football Conference Boyd Division victory over Salve Regina University at Toppa Field in Newport, RI on Saturday. The victory extended the Corsairs season-ending winning streak to four in a row and helped the Corsairs finish with an 8-2 overall mark and 4-2 for second place in the NEFC Boyd Division.
Ranked #7 in last weeks New England Division III football poll, the Corsairs capped their season with another solid defensive effort, earning its third shutout of the season. On the offensive side, Shawn Theriault (Wakefield, MA) finished with three TDs and 172 yards rushing. UMass Dartmouth’s career rushing leader opened the scoring with a five yard TD run in the first period and helped the Corsairs make it 14-0 when he grabbed an 11-yard TD pass from John Falcone (Norwood, MA). After hitting the first two extra points, Derek Bealby (Peterborough, NH) added a 32-yard field goal to give the Corsairs a 17-0 lead after the first quarter. A one yard TD by Falcone gave the Corsairs a 24-0 lead at halftime. Theriault closed out the scoring with a one-yard TD run in the third quarter for the 31-0 final score.
