Head Coach Mark Robichaud has appointed eight assistant coaches to fill out his University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth football staff for the fall 2007 season. Six are newcomers to the staff.

Brian Miller is the only assistant coach who is returning. Miller, who served as an offensive assistant last year under Head Coach Bill Kavanaugh, will be in charge of the quarterbacks and coordinate special teams.

Former Bishop Stang High School Head Coach Tim McCarthy will serve as the Corsairs' offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. McCarthy was Stang's head coach for the last five years, and coached at Stang for 31 years.

Jim Lanagan, the former defensive coordinator at Greater New Bedford Vocational and Technical High School, also has more than 30 years of coaching experience. The head coach at Bishop Stang HS from 1980 through 1995, Lanagan was the head coach at Coyle HS in Taunton, MA from 1964 through 1970, was head coach at Wareham HS from 1970 through 1973, and was in charge of the program at Fairhaven HS from 1973 to 1980.

Steve Faniel will serve as co-defensive coordinator, and also will coach the inside linebackers. Faniel served as defensive line coach at Westfield State for the past three years, and played at Westfield State when the Owls led the nation in total defense in 2001.

Jon Perry will coach defensive backs and also work with special teams. Perry served as an assistant coach under McCarthy for the last 10 years, and also served as the Spartans' head track and field coach.

Dan DeCosta is making his coaching debut. DeCosta, who will coach running backs and also work with kick returners, started at quarterback for four years for Tiverton, RI High School, then played tailback for three years at Salve Regina University.

Matt Sheehan began his collegiate athletic career as an offensive lineman at Stonehill College. He transferred to UMass Dartmouth after an injury forced him to give up competing, and this will also be his first coaching position. He will work with the defensive line.

Ryan Struthers served as the manager for the UMass Dartmouth football team for the past two seasons. He will work with wide receivers as a student assistant coach.

John Regan completed his career at UMass Dartmouth last fall. He will work with outside linebackers as a student assistant coach.
